# Troubleshooting BLE and ANT+ Signal Interference

If your wattage is fluctuating, dropping to zero, or spiking unexpectedly, Zwift may not be receiving all data packets from your device over Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) or ANT+.

BLE and ANT+ both operate on the 2.4 GHz frequency. Other devices that use the same frequency can interfere with the connection and cause signal dropouts.

Because Zwift only reads the data transmitted by your connected devices, interference issues typically originate outside of Zwift.

## Resolution

Before reviewing the causes below, try these troubleshooting steps.

1. Confirm how your devices are connected to Zwift.

    * You can view the connection type in the Paired Devices screen in-game.

2. If your operating system was recently updated, verify that Bluetooth permissions are still enabled.

3. On the device running Zwift, turn Bluetooth off and then back on.

4. Restart Zwift and pair your devices again.

5. Power cycle the device running Zwift.

    * Wait for 30 seconds before turning back on.

6. Power cycle the device you're connecting to Zwift.

    * Wait for 30 seconds before turning back on.

7. If you're troubleshooting a BLE connection and an ANT+ dongle is installed, try removing the ANT+ dongle to simplify the setup.

8. If available, try using an external Bluetooth dongle or ANT+ antenna.

## Common Causes of Signal Dropouts

### Connection Issues

Show table

Cause

Resolution

BLE Device Already Connected Elsewhere

The device may already be connected to another application or device.

1. Close any applications that may be connected to the device.

2. Turn off or remove nearby BLE devices.

BLE Connection Limit Reached

Disconnect or shut down unused BLE devices connected to the device running Zwift.

Zwift Companion App Errors When Used as a Bridge

1. Clear the Zwift Companion app cache.

2. Verify the device running Zwift and the device running Zwift Companion are connected to the same WiFi network.

3. Verify you're signed in to both apps using the same account credentials.

Bluetooth Cache Needs Cleared

Refer to your device manufacturer's instructions for clearing the Bluetooth cache.

### Signal Quality and Interference

Cause

ANT+ Distance from Sensor

Keep the ANT+ dongle and sensors within three feet of each other whenever possible. A USB extension cable can help position the dongle closer to the sensors.

Physical Barriers

Objects between the sensor and your device can reduce signal quality. Remove or minimize obstacles when possible.

Wireless Signal Interference

Nearby devices that transmit wireless signals or electromagnetic fields may cause interference. Examples include:

Bluetooth headphones, speakers, hearing aids, WiFi routers, microwave ovens, mobile phones, wireless video transmitters, wireless speakers, external monitors, unshielded cables, baby monitors, and other wireless devices.

Reduce or remove potential sources of interference where possible.

Fans

Fans can generate electromagnetic fields that may interfere with wireless signals. Position fans so they are not directly between your sensors and your computer or phone.

Wireless Computer Accessories

Wireless mouse, keyboard, and accessory dongles may contribute to interference. Move them away from ANT+ and BLE hardware when possible.

### Hardware and Power Issues

Cause

Resolution

Dying Battery

If the device uses a replaceable battery and the battery has not been replaced recently, try installing a new one.

Loose ANT+ USB Connection

Verify that the ANT+ dongle is securely connected.

Insufficient Power to ANT+ USB Port

If you suspect the ANT+ dongle is not receiving enough power, try a different USB port or a powered USB hub.

Bluetooth Dongle Drivers Out of Date

Verify that the Bluetooth dongle drivers are up to date.

ANT+ Drivers Out of Date (Windows Only)

If you're using Windows:

1. Open Device Manager.

2. Expand USB Connector Managers.

3. Right-click the ANT+ dongle.

4. Select Update driver.

If updating the driver doesn't resolve the issue, reinstalling the driver may help. Windows may reinstall the driver automatically after the ANT+ dongle is reinserted.

BLE Sensor Not Appearing

Open your device's Bluetooth settings and check whether the sensor appears in the list of available devices. If it doesn't appear, turn off equipment that may already be connected to the sensor. If the issue persists, contact the device manufacturer.

Hardware Failure

If you've ruled out the causes above, test with a known-working replacement sensor if available.
