# ERG Mode Troubleshooting

If you're having issues with ERG mode during a workout in Zwift, try the steps below.

If you stop pedaling during a workout, Zwift disengages ERG mode and sets resistance to a neutral level. Your trainer stays at this neutral level until you hold the interval target for 5–10 seconds or the interval ends. ERG mode then reengages.

## Possible Causes

ERG mode issues may be related to:

*   Trainer firmware.

*   Trainer calibration, if applicable.

* Your trainers connection to Zwift.

* Your trainer being connected to another device or app.

* BLE or ANT+ signal interference.

*   Your ANT+ connection configuration.

* The Zwift Companion (ZC) app when you're using it to bridge your trainer's BLE signal to your computer.

*   Gearing.

## Resolution

1.  Check your trainer's firmware.

    * Make sure your trainer has the latest firmware. Depending on your trainer, you can typically install firmware updates using the manufacturer's app.

2. Calibrate your trainer, if applicable.

    * Perform a spindown calibration in Zwift or your trainer's mobile app.

3.  Check your trainer's connections.

    * Make sure your trainer is connected to POWER SOURCE, RESISTANCE, and CADENCE.

    * Make sure your trainer connections are using the same connection method. For example, don't connect your power source with ANT+ and your cadence source with BLE.

4. Disconnect your trainer from other devices and apps.

    * Some trainers can connect to multiple devices or apps at the same time. When your trainer is connected to another device or app at the same time as Zwift, you may see unexpected results in Zwift.

5.  Check for signal interference.

    * Check that nothing is interfering with your BLE or ANT+ signal.

6.  Check your ANT+ pairing.

    * For example, don't pair your Power source with ANT+ and your Controllable source with ANT+ FE-C or your power and resistance measurements are likely to be inaccurate.

7. Reinstall the ZC app, if applicable.

    * If you're using the ZC app to bridge your trainer's BLE signal to your computer, uninstall and reinstall the ZC app.

    *   Don't uninstall Zwift.

8. Check your gearing during your workout.

    * Remain in a neutral gear and avoid shifting.

    * If you're using a Tacx FLUX trainer you may need to change gears to reach certain power levels. See [Garmin's article](https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=zUlDydqhpo8XylNtLZD7R7) for more info.
