How to Start Riding in Zwift

STEP 1: DOWNLOAD THE GAME

Go to Zwift.com and click the "Download" link for your operating system (either Windows or Mac) below the "Join Zwift for Free" button. Or you can just click the appropriate link here: Windows | OSX

For iOS, you download the game on the App Store.

STEP 2: CREATE AN ACCOUNT

Do not attempt to log in to the website first
as you will not have a password yet.

You also cannot run Zwift from zwift.com.

After you have downloaded and installed Zwift, run it. It will bring you to the 'Create New User' screen. Enter all your relevant info.

These screens will look different on iOS, but require the same information.

STEP 3: LOG IN

Once that's done, you can log in! The next time you start Zwift, it will bring you directly to this screen. Just in case it brought you here the first time, there is a 'Create New User' link below the password box that will take you back to Step 2.

These screens will look different on iOS, but require the same information.

STEP 4: ENTER IN YOUR DATA

Here, you need to enter in your relevant data in order to make sure Zwift works accurately and calculates your wattage correctly.

These screens will look different on iOS, but require the same information.

STEP 5: PAIR YOUR DEVICES

At this point, you will pair your smart trainer, your speed/cadence sensor, or your power meter. If you have both a power meter and a smart trainer, you will have to pick one or the other for Zwift to read from. If you are using zPower, pair your speed sensor first, then choose the classic trainer you own.

Pick your setup and click on 'Search.'

PAIRING A SMART TRAINER / CONTROLLABLE TRAINER

I'll use a Wahoo KICKR as an example here.

KICKRs continually broadcast over ANT+ so they should always show up unless another program is hijacking it (such as TrainerRoad).

Once I select the KICKR, it will highlight as blue, and I can click 'OK.'

The Paired Device screen will show your KICKR as a Smart Trainer and Power Meter.  Click 'OK'.

PAIRING A SPEED SENSOR / VIRTUAL POWER

In order to use Virtual Power, you need to have an ANT+ speed sensor and one of our supported classic trainers.

  1. Verify that your speed sensor is on by spinning the wheel it measures.
  2. Select the "Search" button under the Speed Sensor + Classic Trainer category.
  3. Your speed sensor should appear on the pop-up menu. Select it.
  4. Select your supported classic trainer from the next window that appears.

Note: If your trainer is not on the trainer list it is NOT supported. Do not pick a different trainer. You will get inaccurate readings. We encourage you to either switch to a smart trainer, power meter, or supported classic trainer.

See our article on inaccurate zPower readings and tire slippage for more information.

PAIRING A POWER METER

If you have an ANT+ power meter, you can ride on Zwift with any classic trainer or roller setup.

  1. Verify that your power meter is on by rotating the pedals.
  2. Select the "Search" button under the Power Source category.
  3. Your power meter should appear on the pop-up menu. Select it.

Now everything is paired and listed below. If things aren't quite right, you can always click 'Unpair' and try again. In game, you can hit the 'A' key to bring the pairing screen back up.

Hit 'OK' again and you'll be taken to the 'Drop-In' screen. Pick a name and click 'Join' to be dropped next to them or choose 'Just Ride' and you'll start at the beginning of the Zwift Island course.

You're ready to start your first session!

For More Information...

The "Just Ride" option you picked is a free ride mode where you ride with everyone else who is online, pick your own route, and set your own pace. It's best for your first ride on Zwift.

Starting Your Next Ride

For all future rides, you launch the game by double-clicking the icon on your desktop or tapping the Z icon on your iOS device. If you don't see the icon on your desktop/home screen, here's how to find it:

  1. On PC, either press the Windows key and type "Zwift" to find it or look for ZwiftLauncher.exe under Program Files (x86)\Zwift
  2. On OSX, you can find it by navigating to Go > Applications and double-clicking the Zwift icon.
  3. On iOS, if it's not on the home screen, it's probably not installed, and you should reinstall from the App Store

For PC/Mac, we recommend creating a shortcut on your desktop so that it's easy to find.

It still wouldn't work with Bluetooth but works great with ant+. I also can't get my premium Strava account to like.
