# Shift Style and Gear Range

Zwift Ride, Zwift Play, and Zwift Click let you choose different shift styles and gear ranges to customize your shifting experience.

## Things to Know

* You can change your shift style and gear range from the HARDWARE tab in your in-game settings at any point during a ride.

* Shifting the chainring—the toothed gear near the pedals—down makes it easier to pedal, while shifting it up makes it harder to pedal.

* Shifting the cassette—the group of cogs on the rear wheel—up makes it easier to pedal, while shifting it down makes it harder to pedal.

* If you have ERG mode enabled in a workout, Zwift automatically adjusts the intensity of your workout blocks. You won't be able to shift gears unless you're in a free ride block.

* The Mixed Terrain 1x24 gearing scheme uses one chainring. When using Shimano-Style A, Shimano-Style B, or SRAM-Style shifting with this gear range, you won't be able to adjust the chainring.
