# Using the Event Fence

Using a fence during an event helps to keep the group together and prevent [flyers](https://support.zwift.com/cycling-lingo-r1JwpDlcp) during the event. Depending on how the fence has been set up flyers may be removed from the event if they pass the fence and don't return to the group within 60 seconds.

## Turning On the Fence

Event organizers can request a fence be turned on for their public events by following these steps:

1.  Complete all fields in the [Event Change Request form](https://gozwift.kustomer.help/contact/event-change-request-HkA34mv5H).
    
2.  In the **Change Needed** field, please request one of the following:
    
    *   A fence for your event that doesn't remove members when they pass the fence and don't return to the group.
        
    *   A fence for your event that does remove members when they pass the fence and don't return to the group.
        
3.  Select **SUBMIT**.
    

## Using the Fence

When leading an event with the fence enabled, ride leaders see the following info for the fence:

*   **FLYERS:** The number of Zwifters in front of the fence.
    
*   **REMOVED:** If the fence is set to remove Zwifters who don't return to the group, this shows the number of Zwifters removed from the event.
    
*   **FENCE:** The options to control how far in front of the ride leader the fence appears, or to turn off the fence.
