# Updating Your Zwift Ride Firmware

If this is your first time using your Zwift Ride or you want to update to the [most recent firmware](https://forums.zwift.com/t/whats-the-latest-zwift-equipment-firmware-version/608139), follow these steps:

Before updating firmware, ensure your Zwift Ride controllers and the mobile device running the Zwift Companion app are fully charged or plugged in.

If possible, use your personal phone to update your Zwift Ride firmware to avoid running into issues with limited permissions.

1. If you don't already have it, you'll need to download the [Zwift Companion](https://support.zwift.com/using-the-zwift-companion-app-rJ7ayD_ES) (ZC) app from the [Google Play Store](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zwift.android.prod "Google Play Store") or the [iOS App Store](https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/zwift-mobile-link/id934083691?mt=8 " iOS App Store").

2. After powering on your Zwift Ride handlebar controllers, open the ZC app and sign in, if necessary.

Don't pair your handlebar controllers to the Zwift game.

3. Check that Bluetooth on your mobile device is switched on and the LED on your Zwift Ride is flashing blue.

You may need Location services turned on to pair BLE devices when using the Zwift Companion app.

If you're using an iOS device, you may need to turn Bluetooth on for Companion in your device Settings.

4. Access the ZC app menu by completing one of the following:
    * If you're using an Android device, select the ![Android Menu](https://zwiftdmz-marcom-us-east.s3.amazonaws.com/support/EN/Hardware/Resources/Images/Android%20Menu.png "Android Menu ") icon.
    * If you're using an iOS device, select **MORE** in the bottom navigation bar.
5. Select **EQUIPMENT**.
6. Select **ZWIFT RIDE**.
7. If a firmware update is available, select **UPDATE FIRMWARE**.

8. Select **PROCEED** to start the firmware update.

The LED on the controller is solid yellow when the firmware is updating.

9. Once the firmware is up-to-date, select **OK** when prompted in the ZC app.

Ride On.
