# Swapping the Sprocket on Your Zwift Cog

Follow these steps if you've been asked by Zwift support to swap out the sprocket on your [second generation Zwift Cog](https://support.zwift.com/zwift-cog-comparison-ry6V5MMDC).

## Required Tools/Equipment

*   Chain whip.
    
*   Lock ring bit tool.
    
    There are several different lock ring bit tools you can use—make sure you have a lock ring bit; lock ring bit wrench; or an all in one tool.
    
*   Torque wrench (optional).
    

## Installing the Zwift Cog

If your Zwift Cog isn't already installed on your trainer, follow [these steps](https://support.zwift.com/en_us/installing-a-zwift-cog-no-freehub-or-zwift-cog-elite-S1Z0D1HEJg) to install it now.

## Swapping the Sprocket

Follow these steps when your Zwift Cog is installed on the trainer:

1.  Wrap the chain whip around the Zwift Cog keeping the handle on the right-hand side.
    
2.  Press down on the chain whip handle to ensure the Zwift Cog is secure.
    
3.  Place the lock ring bit tool into the Zwift Cog lock ring.
    
4.  While still pressing on the chain whip handle, turn the lock ring bit tool counterclockwise to unscrew the lock ring—keep this safe.

5.  Remove the outer plastic cover, the middle piece in the following image, from the Zwift Cog.
    
    The outer cover includes an orange exterior and a black interior.

6.  Remove the sprocket, the silver part with the teeth, from the freehub.
    
    We recommend keeping this somewhere safe, in case you ever need to reinstall it.
    
7.  Place the new sprocket on the freehub body by performing the following:
    
    1.  Locate the smallest notch on the sprocket.
        
    2.  Locate the smallest gap on the freehub body.
        
    3.  Line up the smallest notch on the sprocket with the smallest gap on the freehub body.
        
    4.  Slide the sprocket on until it is flush.

8.  Place the outer plastic cover, the middle piece in the above image, onto the Zwift Cog.
9.  Install and tighten the lock ring:
    1.  Wrap the chain whip around the sprocket, keeping the handle on the left-hand side.
    2.  Place the lock ring into the Zwift Cog.
    3.  Insert the lock ring bit tool into the lock ring and finger tighten.
    4.  After finger tightening, turn the lock ring bit tool clockwise quarter of a turn—if you have a torque wrench, tighten to 5Nm.
        
        Be careful to not cross the threads when tightening the lock ring as this can cause serious damage.
