# Steering with a STERZO SMART

Once you’re set up and ready, make sure that your STERZO SMART isn't connected directly to the device that’s running Zwift or the ZC app and follow these steps:

Steering in Zwift works with the STERZO SMART and not the STERZO as the STERZO doesn't transmit BLE.

1. Open Zwift and sign in.
2. Wake up the STERZO SMART device by moving your tire back and forth.
3. After pairing your trainer, in the **PAIRED DEVICES** screen, select **CONTROLS**.

If you're running Zwifton an Apple TV® or your computer doesn't have built-in BLE, you'll want to [use the ZC app as a bridge](https://support.zwift.com/using-the-zwift-companion-app-as-a-bridge-ByAnUzlLj "article").

4. Select the **STERZO SMART** from the list then select **OK**.

5. In the Home Screen, select your initials then select **My settings**.

6. Scroll down to **Intersection Controls** and select if you'd like to use your STERZO SMART to select your direction when approaching an intersection then select **OK**.

7. Make your world choice and route selection, then select **START RIDE**.
8. When you start pedaling, the **WELCOME TO STEERING!** screen displays, select **OK**.

The WELCOME TO STEERING! screen only displays the first time you connect your STERZO SMART.

![Select OK when the Welcome to FutureWorks Steering window loads](https://zwiftdmz-marcom-us-east.s3.amazonaws.com/support/EN/Cycling/Resources/Images/1.64%20Cycling%20-%20Welcome%20to%20Steering.png "Select OK")

An ![ON icon](https://zwiftdmz-marcom-us-east.s3.amazonaws.com/support/EN/Cycling/Resources/Images/Steering-On-3.jpg)icon will appear in the Heads up Display (HUD) letting you know you're in Steering mode.

9. Using your bike handlebars, point the front wheel in the direction you want your avatar to move.

Ride On.
