# Splits

Splits, also known as laps or intervals, let you track ride metrics for specific sections of your ride. Available metrics include:

*   Duration

*   Distance

*   Average heart rate

*   Power distribution

*   Average power

Unlike segments, splits do not use fixed locations. You choose when to start a split, giving you control over how your ride is divided and analyzed.

## Starting a Split

You can start a split from:

*   Heads Up Display (HUD)

*   Keyboard

*   Zwift Companion (ZC) app

*   Zwift Ride

### HUD

To start a split from the HUD, select the splits icon from the action bar.

You can also start a new split by selecting the new split icon from the SPLITS side display—not available on Apple TV.

Select the side display toggle icon in the action bar to switch the side display between leaderboards, splits, and nothing.

### Keyboard

Press the **Tab** key on your keyboard—when you're not riding in a workout—to start a new split.

Pressing the Tab key during a workout skips the interval.

### ZC App

When using the ZC app alongside Zwift, select the splits icon from the action bar to start a new split.

Select the side display toggle icon in the action bar to switch the side display between leaderboards and splits.

### Zwift Ride

You can configure the drop buttons on your Zwift Ride in your in-game settings to include the option to start a new split.

## Things to Know

* Split data is recorded in your fit file and displays in third-party platforms when you upload your activity data.

* Split tracking begins when you start your ride. Starting a new split creates the next split.

* During a workout, Zwift automatically creates a split for each workout block.

* When viewing your splits, Ride Stats are displayed.

* When Splits are active, leaderboards do not display.
