# Shift Style and Gear Range

Your Zwift Ride, Zwift Play, and Zwift Click allow you to switch up your shifting style and offer four different gear range schemes so you can create your ideal experience for the route you've selected in Zwift.

## Shift Style

Selected from the HARDWARE tab in your [in-game settings](https://support.zwift.com/in-game-settings-Hy_tSDDnt), you can choose from the following shift styles at any point during a ride:

If you have [ERG mode](https://support.zwift.com/erg-mode-in-workouts-SkQJC8OEH) enabled in a workout, Zwift automatically adjusts the intensity of your workout blocks and you won't be able to shift gears unless you're in a free ride block.

Shifting the chainring—the gear near the pedals of a bike—up makes it harder to pedal, shifting the chainring down makes it easier to pedal.
Shifting the cassette—the group of cogs on a bike's rear wheel—up makes it easier to pedal, shifting the cassette down makes it harder to pedal.
