# Removing a Cassette from Your Trainer

Follow these instructions to remove a cassette from your trainer.

## Difficulty Rating

## Required Tools/Equipment

*   Chain whip.

*   Lock ring bit tool.

    There are several different lock ring bit tools you can use—make sure you have a lock ring bit; lock ring bit wrench; or an all in one tool that's Shimano/SRAM compatible.

    If your bike uses a quick release, make sure your lock ring bit tool has a 5 mm guide pin or no pin. Lock ring bit tools with 12 mm guide pins are intended for use with thru-axles and will not fit through the smaller quick release hole.

## Removing a Cassette

Now that you have all of your tools, follow these steps to remove a cassette:

Don't feel like removing the cassette yourself? Your local bike shop should be able to help.

1. If you haven't already, disconnect the power supply from the electrical port on the trainer.

    Make sure your trainer is unplugged from the power supply before continuing.

2. Wrap the chain whip around the middle of the cassette keeping the handle on the right-hand side.

3. Press down on the chain whip handle to ensure the cassette is secure.

4. Place the lock ring bit tool into the cassette lock ring.

5. Turn the lock ring bit tool counterclockwise to unscrew the cassette lock ring.

6. Once unscrewed, you can remove the cassette lock ring and the cassette from the freehub body.

7. If your cassette had a spacer, remove the spacer from the freehub body.

Ride On.
