# Leveling Up FAQ

How is my level determined in Zwift?

Your level is based on your total experience points (XP). As you earn XP, your rider/runner score increases and your level goes up.

How many levels are in Zwift?

Zwift includes hundreds of cycling levels and 50 running levels, with more added over time.

Why do some Zwifters have an orange stripe in the Zwifters Nearby list?

An orange stripe indicates the rider has reached level 100 or higher.

How do I earn XP?

You earn XP by riding, running, or completing workouts in Zwift.

How much XP do I earn?

You'll earn 32 XP per mile (20 per km) for riding in Zwift.

You'll earn 15 XP per ¼ mile (10 XP per 250 meters) for running in Zwift, plus 5 XP per 100 calories burned.

You can also earn additional XP from things like completing routes, challenges, or maintaining a streak.

How will I know when I level up?

You’ll see your new level displayed on screen, along with a banner showing any unlocked items.

Can I see how much XP I need for the next level?

Yes. You can check your current XP and progress toward the next level on the in-game Menu screen. You can also see how much XP you need to reach the next level in your Progress Report.

Do I unlock anything when I level up?

Yes. For cycling, you'll unlock new items at each level up through level 100, which you can access in your garage. For running, you'll unlock items at major milestones. You'll also receive bonus drops when you reach a new level.

What are drops?

Drops are in-game credits that can be redeemed for items in the Drop Shop.

What happens when I reach the maximum level?

You’ll keep earning XP even after reaching the current maximum level, and it will continue to be tracked.

How does progress work when new levels are added?

Any XP you earned beyond the previous level cap is applied toward new levels when they’re released.

What happens if I’m at the highest level when more levels become available?

You’ll remain at your current level.

Any additional XP you’ve earned will be applied to your future progression. As you continue earning XP, you’ll begin progressing through the new levels.

What is level transitioning?

Level transitioning means your progress is being adjusted to match the current leveling system. While transitioning, you'll temporarily reach levels with 20% less XP than usual. Once complete, your progression returns to normal. This only applies up to level 100.

What is accelerated leveling?

Accelerated leveling means previously earned XP is being applied to help you progress faster. While in accelerated leveling, you'll level up more quickly than usual until your extra XP runs out.

What do the chevron icons mean on the Menu screen?

You may see icons above your progress bar on the Menu screen during a ride:

*   **2 chevrons:** You’re in level transitioning.

*   **3 chevrons:** You’re in accelerated leveling.

You'll only see these icons if you're in level transitioning or accelerated leveling.
