# Installing a Zwift Cog With No Freehub

## Required Tools/Equipment

*   Torque wrench (optional).
    
*   Lock ring bit tool.
    
    There are several different lock ring bit tools you can use—make sure you have a lock ring bit; lock ring bit wrench; or an all in one tool.
    
*   Chain whip
    

## Installing a Zwift Cog With No Freehub

When you have all your tools and your Zwift Cog, follow these steps:

If you've purchased a Zwift Cog without a freehub, it comes on a plastic carrier. You'll remove this carrier during the installation process, keep your Zwift Cog on the carrier for now.

1.  If you haven't already, disconnect the power supply from the electrical port on your trainer.
    
2.  If you have a cassette or a Zwift Cog installed on your trainer, [remove the cassette](https://support.zwift.com/en_us/removing-a-cassette-from-your-zwift-hub-BkBX2TIki) or Zwift Cog from the trainer.
    
    Ensure you only remove the cassette or Zwift Cog and not the freehub body.
    
    You'll need the chain whip and lock ring bit tool to remove your cassette.
    
3.  If you've removed a cassette that used a spacer, ensure you've removed the spacer from the trainer.
4.  Turn the freehub body on the trainer so the one thin strip on the freehub body is at the top.
5.  Remove the cardboard disc from the back of the Zwift Cog.

6.  If you're installing the Zwift Cog on an Elite Direto XR, Direto XR-T, or Garmin Tacx trainer, follow these steps:
    
    Only complete the following steps—a to d—if your trainer is an Elite Direto XR, Direto XR-T, or Garmin Tacx trainer.
    
    1.  Remove the plastic carrier from the Zwift Cog.
        
    2.  Remove the small spacer from the front of the Zwift Cog.

    3.  Reinsert the plastic carrier into the Zwift Cog.

    4.  Install the spacer you removed from the Zwift Cog onto the freehub body on your trainer.

7.  With the thin spline on the clear plastic ring on the back of the Zwift Cog facing up, place the Zwift Cog in front of the freehub body.

8.  Slide the Zwift Cog off the plastic carrier and all the way onto the freehub body.
    
9.  Insert the lock ring that came with your Zwift Cog without freehub into the Zwift Cog and finger tighten.
    
    Be careful to not cross the threads when tightening the lock ring as this can cause serious damage.

10.  Insert your lock ring tool into the lock ring and tighten the lock ring quarter of a turn.
    *   If you have a torque wrench, tighten the adapter to 5Nm.
