# Installing a Zwift Cog on a Garmin Tacx NEO 2

The Garmin® Tacx NEO 2 shipped with two different axle types. The axle type for your trainer determines the steps you need to take to install a Zwift Cog. Before installing a Zwift Cog, you'll need to identify which axle type your trainer has. Check out the steps below to get started:

All Tacx NEO 2T Smart trainers have type 2 axles.

## Identify Garmin Tacx NEO 2 Axle Type

There are three different methods you can use to identify the axle type of your Tacx NEO 2:

1. [Check your axle end caps](#Check_Your_Trainer_End_Caps).

2. [Check the part number on the freehub body](#Check_the_Part_Number_on_the_Freehub_Body).

3.  [Measure the axle width](#Measure_the_Axle_Width).

### Check Your Axle End Caps

Check if there is any printing on the axle end caps.

The axle end caps are the removable parts at the end of the trainer axle, where the rear of your bike slots onto the trainer.

* **Type 1 axle:** End caps are all black with no letters or numbers.

* **Type 2 axle:** End caps are black with white letters and numbers.

### Check the Part Number on the Freehub Body

Check the part number printed on the freehub body.

The freehub body holds the cassette.

*   **Type 1 axle:** T2805.01 (S)

*   **Type 2 axle:** T2875-01

### Measure the Axle Width

Using calipers, measure the inside diameter of the axle.

*   **Type 1 axle:** 6 or 9 mm

*   **Type 2 axle:** 12 mm

## Installing a Zwift Cog

Once you've identified whether your Tacx NEO 2 has a type 1 or type 2 axle, follow these steps:

### Type 1 Axle

If your trainer has a type 1 axle, you'll need to remove the Zwift Cog from the included freehub body before installing it on your trainer.

1. Remove the Zwift Cog from the freehub body.

    You'll need a chain whip and a lock ring bit tool to remove the Zwift Cog.

    1. Wrap the chain whip around the Zwift Cog, keeping the handle on the right-hand side.

    2. Keep pressure on the chain whip handle to secure the Zwift Cog.

    3. Place the lock ring bit tool into the Zwift Cog lock ring.

    4. Turn the lock ring bit tool counterclockwise to unscrew the lock ring.

    5. Once unscrewed, remove the lock ring and the Zwift Cog from the freehub body.

2. [Install the Zwift Cog without freehub body](https://support.zwift.com/en_us/installing-a-zwift-cog-with-no-freehub-S1Z0D1HEJg).

### Type 2 Axle
