# Handcycle FAQ

What is a handcycle?

A handcycle is a cycle powered by the rider’s arms instead of their legs. In Zwift, the handcycle is designed to help adaptive athletes better represent themselves in-game.

How do I select the handcycle for my avatar?

You can select the handcycle from your Garage. The handcycle color can also be customized.

Who can use the handcycle?

Any Zwifter can use the handcycle.

Can I use the handcycle in events, workouts, and races?

Yes. The handcycle can be used in workouts, clubs, and most events unless a specific bike is required.

How does FTP and category enforcement work with the handcycle?

FTP and category enforcement work the same way they do for other bikes in Zwift.

Are there any restrictions when using the handcycle?

There are currently no handcycle-specific restrictions outside of events that require a specific bike type.

How does drafting work with the handcycle?

The handcycle receives a 50% draft benefit when riding behind conventional bikes. Only other handcycles can draft behind a handcycle.

Can I customize or upgrade the handcycle?

You can customize the handcycle color. Additional frame or wheel options aren’t currently available.

Where can I get help setting up my handcycle with Zwift?

Handcycle setups can vary depending on your equipment. We recommend contacting your handcycle manufacturer for guidance on trainers, cadence sensors, and power meter compatibility.
