# Events FAQ

**Q:** What is an event?

A: An [event](https://zwift.com/events/) is a scheduled ride or run where groups of Zwifters can ride, run, workout, or race together. While Zwift coordinates many daily events club owners can also [create events](https://support.zwift.com/managing-your-clubs-events-BkCbbg7uY) for their own clubs.

**Q:** Can I complete multiple events in one Zwift session?

A: Absolutely! Although—we strongly recommend you save after each event to prevent your activity from uploading improperly.

**Q:** Do I need to turn or steer during an event to follow the course?

A: Nope! Zwift will lead you in the correct direction during an event all you need to do pedal.

**Q:** What types of events does Zwift host?

A: Typically, we host group rides, runs, workouts, and races.

**Q:** Where can I find an event to join?

A: You can find events via the Zwift Companion app, in-game, or via [Zwift.com/events](https://zwift.com/events/ "Zwift.com/events"). Check out our articles for more info on joining a [cycling](https://support.zwift.com/en_us/registering-for-a-cycling-event-rJsd4_o3F) or [running](https://support.zwift.com/en_us/registering-for-a-running-event-ByEke6o2Y) event.

**Q:** How do I know which group to join?

A: To help find a group that’s right for you, check out our articles for more info on [cycling](https://support.zwift.com/en_us/registering-for-a-cycling-event-rJsd4_o3F) or [running](https://support.zwift.com/en_us/registering-for-a-running-event-ByEke6o2Y) groups.

**Q:** What is a group event?

A:  Group are unstructured and can be social, competitive, or whatever else the event leader can think of.

**Q:** What is a group workout?

A:  Group workouts are structured and use Zwift's workout mode. To enhance the group feel in cycling group workouts we use a "rubberbanding" feature which keeps everyone together, regardless of power output.

If you're a coach or group looking to schedule a group workout for the public calendar, you must have at least 12 individual and unique sessions, occurring over a minimum of 12 weeks—with at least one event scheduled each week. Ultimately, the series should feel like a complete package that's designed to achieve a larger goal, such as improving your time-trials, sprinting, or overall aerobic endurance.

**Q:** What is Rubberbanding?

A: Rubberbanding is a cycling feature that keeps Zwifters together when they're riding. When this feature is turned on—your speed may be faster or slower than you'd expect when putting down the same watts during a ride without Rubberbanding in place.

**Q:** What's a race?

A:  During a race, Zwifters compete against each other to see who's the fastest to complete a specific course in-game. If you're interested in racing, check out our [racing guide](https://support.zwift.com/en_us/zwift-racing-guide-HJ7MuPp3U) for more info.

**Q:**  Who can request a Zwift event?

A: While anyone with a Zwift account and active membership can request a Zwift event, we look for variety when scheduling events and typically only approve events that encourage a large turnout from a variety of Zwifters. The person requesting the event is referred to as the event organizer.

**Q:** Are Zwift events open to everyone?

A: Most events on Zwift are public, meaning they're open to the entire Zwift community. Some events are private, and these are only visible to the organizer and those invited to the specific event. If you'd like to schedule a private group event, we suggest using ZC to create a Meetup, or joining or creating a club.

**Q:** Do I need to pay to request an event?

A: Requesting an event is free and there's no charge to participate in one. The only requirement is that you have a Zwift account and an active membership.

**Q:**  Do I need show up to my own event?

A: If you request an event, we ask that you show up and participate for each associated ride or run. Each session must have a designated event leader—this should be someone who was involved in planning the event.

**Q:**  How will I know who's the event leader?

A:  Great question! An icon is displayed over the event leader's avatar in the event—we call this a beacon—and next to their name on the leader board.

**Q:** What's considered an ideal turnout for an event?

A: While it's hard to give a specific number, you want your event to be small enough that Zwifters are able to make connections, but not so small that you lose the group feel. For a small event, 20-30 participants normally feels good, while 100-150 Zwifters works well for a larger event. We've also had events in the past with over 1000 participants that were extremely popular.

**Q:** What are event sub groups?

A: Sub groups are categories within the event designed to group Zwifters of varying fitness levels with others of a similar power output. It's common for larger events to have multiple sub groups to keep the event fair and fun.

Ride On.
