# Error Code: z117

You see error code z117 when Zwift can't write files to your PC.

## Possible Causes

* You’re not using an administrator account.

* Your administrator account username contains special characters (symbols or punctuation).

* Another program is interfering with Zwift (for example, antivirus or backup software).

* Not enough available disk space.

* Zwift folder stored on a network location instead of your local PC

## Resolution

Follow these steps in order. Check if the issue is resolved after each step.

1. Run Zwift as administrator.

    * Right-click the Zwift file and select **Run as administrator**.

2. Check your account username.

    * Remove special characters from your administrator account username.

    * Create a new administrator account without special characters.

3. Check antivirus or security software.

    * Make sure your antivirus software isn’t preventing Zwift from writing to your account folder.

    * Allow Zwift through Controlled Folder Access if enabled (see [Microsoft documentation](https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/allow-an-app-to-access-controlled-folders-b5b6627a-b008-2ca2-7931-7e51e912b034)).

    * Add Zwift as an exclusion in Windows Security(see [Microsoft documentation](https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/allow-an-app-to-access-controlled-folders-b5b6627a-b008-2ca2-7931-7e51e912b034)).

4. Pause backup or sync apps.

    * Pause apps like OneDrive or Dropbox while Zwift updates.

5. Free up disk space.

    * Make sure you have at least 5 GB of free space on your drive.

6. Verify Zwift folder location:

    * Make sure Zwift is installed on your local PC, not a network folder.

    * If your Zwift folder is located on a network folder, uninstall and reinstall Zwift.

Re-installing Zwift will delete any custom workouts stored locally on your computer. We recommend backing up any custom workouts before you begin.

### Verify Folder Location

1. Locate the **Z** icon in the taskbar notification area.

    * If needed, select **˄** to show hidden icons.

2. Right-click the **Z** icon and select **Open Logs Folder**.

3. Check the file path.

    * Confirm the folder is under **This PC** and not a network location.
