# ERG Mode Troubleshooting

Here's a few things to check if you're having issues with [ERG mode](https://support.zwift.com/erg-mode-in-workouts-SkQJC8OEH) when completing a workout in Zwift:

If you stop pedaling during a workout, Zwift assumes you're having trouble completing the interval and switches from ERG into Bailout mode—putting you at a neutral resistance level. Your trainer will stay in Bailout mode until you hold the interval target for 5-10 seconds or the interval ends, at which point ERG mode will reengage

* During your workout, remain in a neutral gear and avoid shifting.
* Check you have the most up-to-date firmware for your trainer. Depending on your trainer, firmware updates can typically be installed from the manufacturer's app.
* Perform a spindown calibration in Zwift or through your trainers mobile app, if applicable to your trainer.

For the best experience, we recommend performing a [calibration spindown](https://support.zwift.com/en_us/performing-a-calibration-spindown-ByUaXPoi9) weekly and always after updating trainer firmware.

* Check your trainer is connected with POWER, RESISTANCE, and CADENCE and is connected via either BLE or ANT+.

Ensure you're using only BLE or ANT+ [to connect](https://support.zwift.com/en_us/connecting-your-devices-for-cycling-HJIFDrw5S). For example, don't connect your power source with ANT+ and your cadence source with BLE.

* Check your trainer isn't connected to another device or application.

Many trainers can connect to multiple devices/applications at the same time. When connected to another device/application at the same time as Zwift, you may see unexpected results in Zwift.

* Check there's nothing [interfering](https://support.zwift.com/en_us/ble-and-ant-interference-troubleshooting-tips-ryUhOTnzH) with your BLE or ANT+ signal.

* If you're connecting your trainer over ANT+, make sure that you're pairing to 'ANT+ FE-C'.

For example, don't pair your Power source with ANT+ and your Controllable source with ANT+ FE-C or your power and resistance measurements are likely to be inaccurate.

* If you're using the Zwift Companion (ZC) app to bridge your BLE signal from your trainer to computer, try uninstalling the ZC app and reinstalling it.

Make sure you do not uninstall Zwift.

* If you're using a Tacx FLUX trainer, you may need to change gears to reach certain power levels, check out [Garmin's article](https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=zUlDydqhpo8XylNtLZD7R7) for more info.

Ride On.
