# Connecting a Heart Rate Monitor

A heart rate monitor (HRM) helps you track effort and adjust your training in Zwift.

You can connect any HRM that broadcasts via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) or ANT+.

Before connecting your HRM, make sure you've connected a power source (trainer or power meter) or a speed sensor.

## Connecting Your HRM

1. In the **PAIRED DEVICES** screen, select **HEART RATE**.

## Things to Know

* Make sure your HRM isn’t connected to another app or device, or Zwift may not detect it.

* When connected, a HRM lets you view your heart rate in-game and includes that data in your activity.

* Some events require a heart rate monitor. Check the event details for requirements before joining.

* If you see the Trainer Bridge icon (![Image of trainer bridge icon](https://content-cdn.zwift.com/support/EN/Cycling/Resources/Images/Sensor Relay Icon_30x29.png "Trainer Bridge Icon")) next to your heart rate monitor, your trainer can relay heart rate data. You can choose to connect through the trainer or connect directly.

* If you have a 4iiii Viiiiva, your Viiiiva HRM must use its default name to appear in Zwift. If you’ve renamed your device, change it back to the default name using the Viiiiva instructions.

## Heart Rate Data Consent

* You'll be asked to provide consent when connecting a HRM.

* You can withdraw your consent at any time from your in-game settings : My Settings > Permissions > Heart Rate Data Consent.

* Consent is tied to your Zwift account, so you won’t be asked again when using other HRMs or devices.

* If you withdraw consent, you’ll be prompted again the next time you connect a HRM.
