# Changing the Chain on Your Zwift Ride

Follow these steps if you ever need to change the chain on your Zwift Ride:

## Required Tools/Equipment

Prior to changing your chain, you're going to need the following:

*   New chain (98 links 1/2" pitch 3/32).
    
*   Gloves.

## Removing Chain

Follow these steps to remove your chain:

The Zwift Ride chain is lubricated with oil, take care not to touch the chain with your hands or clothing.

1.  [Remove your Zwift Ride](https://support.zwift.com/removing-your-zwift-ride-from-the-trainer-BkRSyMf8C) from the trainer.
    
2.  Place your Zwift Ride upside down on a level and stable surface.
    
3.  Move the orange chain tensioner up to loosen the chain.

4.  Lift the chain off of the rear dropout and allow it to hang from the chainring.
    
5.  Holding the chain at either side of the chain tensioner, carefully pull the chain towards you sliding it between the chainring and the chain tensioner.

## Installing New Chain

Follow these steps to install a new chain:

The Zwift Ride chain is lubricated with oil, take care not to touch the chain with your hands or clothing.

1.  Holding the chain with both hands, carefully slide the chain between the chainring and the chain tensioner.
    
2.  Position the chain over the teeth on the chainring.
    
3.  Place the other end of the chain into the chain position on the rear dropout.

4.  Move the orange chain tensioner down to tighten the chain.
