# Category Enforcement Pace Groups

If you're looking for info on the A-D, or A-E pace groups used in some [events](https://www.zwift.com/events), you've come to the right place! In order to provide a fair environment, we use [category enforcement](https://support.zwift.com/en_us/category-enforcement-faq-rJ5CQrpvc) to calculate a minimum pace group, sometimes called a subgroup, for Zwifters to join based on historical power data (w/kg) or for racing, [Racing Score](https://support.zwift.com/en_us/racing-score-faq-BkG9_Rqrh). This prevents Zwifters from joining groups that are too easy for them.

You can view your pace group in the MY PROFILE  section of your feed on [Zwift.com](https://www.zwift.com/feed). You can also view your pace group in your profile in the Zwift Companion (ZC) app.

For events using the A-D, or A-E pace groups, we analyze your power data from every activity you do in Zwift—whether you save the ride or not—over the previous 90 days. With that, we calculate your power profile which includes metrics such as zFTP, zMAP, and their respective power-to-weight ratios (watts/kg), which account for your weight. The choice is then yours if you want to join the lowest pace group available to you, or if you want to challenge yourself more and join a higher pace group. The lowest category you can join is calculated differently for [open events](#Open_Race) and [women's only events](#Women's_Only_Race):

If you don't have any activity in Zwift for the previous 90 days, you can join pace group E if it's available—pace group E is optional and must be requested by the event organizer. Or, you can do some activities in Zwift to build up your data in order that we can calculate your minimum category.

## Open Event

In an open event, the lowest pace group you can join is determined by where the highest value of either your zMAP (watts/kg) or zFTP (watts/kg) falls in the below table, provided your zFTP (watts) also falls in that, or a higher, row. If your zFTP (watts) value falls in a lower pace group than your zMAP (watts/kg) or zFTP (watts/kg), you'll also be able to enter the pace group where your zFTP (watts) falls.

For example: If your zMAP power-to-weight ratio is 3.2W/kg, your zFTP is 2.63W/kg, and your zFTP (watts) is 140W, you can join pace groups D, C, B, or A. Even though your zMAP and zFTP meet the criteria for pace group C, your zFTP (watts) meets the criteria for (and allows you to join) pace group D or above.

## Women's Only Event

In a women's only event, the lowest pace group you can join is determined by where the highest value of either your zMAP (watts/kg) or zFTP (watts/kg) fits in the table below.

For example: If your zMAP power-to-weight ratio is 4.3W/kg and your zFTP power-to-weight ratio is 3.4W/kg, you can join pace groups B or A.
