# Category Enforcement FAQ

## About Category Enforcement

What is category enforcement?

Category enforcement assigns the minimum event category you can join based on your historical performance. It helps prevent Zwifters from joining categories below their ability. Your minimum category is calculated using your historical power data (w/kg) or, for races, your Racing Score.

For the most accurate category assignment, regularly calibrate your trainer or power meter.

Why is category enforcement beneficial?

Category enforcement helps create fairer events by preventing riders from entering categories below their ability. It also helps organizers group riders with similar performance levels.

How do I know which category is right for me?

The lowest category available when you register is the minimum category based on your historical performance. You can still choose to enter a higher category if one is available.

Why can I join categories that might be too hard for me?

You can join a higher category if you'd like a greater challenge. Category enforcement only restricts categories below your minimum eligible category.

Can I choose a category below my minimum eligible category?

No. Category enforcement prevents you from joining categories below your minimum eligible category.

## Using Category Enforcement

Does every event use category enforcement?

No. Category enforcement is optional for event organizers. Events that use it indicate this in the event title, description, rules, or with the category enforcement icon ![Category Enforcement Icon](https://content-cdn.zwift.com/support/EN/Cycling/Resources/Images/Category%20Enforcement.png).

Is category enforcement available for women-only events?

Yes. Category enforcement can be used for women-only events.

Will I see results from other event categories in ZwiftPower?

Yes. ZwiftPower displays results for all event categories.

## Managing Your Category

My minimum category no longer reflects my current ability. What do I do?

Your minimum category is calculated using your power data from the previous 90 days or for racing, your Racing Score. As older activities fall outside that calculation window, your minimum category may change over time. The more you ride, the more accurate your calculations will be.

Someone else used my account and my minimum category changed. What can I do?

Zwift accounts are intended for individual use. If someone else used your account, you'll need to wait until their activities are no longer included in the 90-day calculation.

## For Event Organizers

How can I enable category enforcement for my event?

Contact [events@zwift.com](mailto:events@zwift.com) and request category enforcement when your event is created or updated. It can be applied to open or women-only event groups.
