# Bikes You Can Use with Zwift

You can use many types of bikes with Zwift, including road, gravel, triathlon, hybrid, and mountain bikes. Your smart trainer, power meter, or supported speed sensor and trainer combination sends your cycling effort to Zwift.

Choose a bike that:

*   Fits you and is comfortable to ride.
    
*   Can be securely attached to your trainer.
    

Before attaching your bike, check the trainer manufacturer’s compatibility information. You may also need to check with the bike manufacturer, particularly if your bike has a carbon frame or an unusual frame or axle design.

## Zwift Ride

Zwift Ride is an adjustable indoor smart frame designed for use with a compatible Zwift Ready or Zwift Cog Compatible smart trainer. It provides an always-ready indoor setup without requiring you to regularly attach and remove an outdoor bike.

## Using Your Own Bike

The following bike types can commonly be used with Zwift. Make sure your bike is compatible with your trainer.

### Road Bikes

Road bikes are generally straightforward to use with indoor trainers and provide several hand positions for longer rides.

### Gravel Bikes

Gravel bikes are generally as suitable for indoor riding as road bikes. Check that the bike’s axle and drivetrain are compatible with your trainer.

### Triathlon Bikes

Triathlon bikes can be used with compatible trainers. Make sure you’re comfortable maintaining the bike’s riding position indoors, particularly during longer or easier rides.

### Hybrid Bikes

Hybrid bikes can provide a more upright riding position. Check the bike’s axle, wheel size, and drivetrain against the trainer’s compatibility requirements.

### Mountain Bikes

Mountain bikes can be used with many trainers, although you may need axle adapters or other accessories.

Knobby tires can be noisy and may not run smoothly against a wheel-on trainer. Consider using a smooth trainer tire or a direct-drive trainer.

## Virtual Shifting

If your smart trainer supports virtual shifting, a Zwift Cog and Zwift Click can reduce the importance of your bike’s physical gearing. You shift electronically in Zwift instead of using the bike’s gears.

Virtual shifting doesn’t change whether the bike’s frame and axle fit the trainer, so you’ll still need to confirm physical compatibility.
